The Opening Concert

The evening begins with a magnificent opening concert in the University Aula, where the audience gathers for a world-class musical experience.

The concert is curated by our artist managers, soprano Vera Talerko and pianist Cesar Cañon, with the aim of creating a performance that engages both experienced opera enthusiasts and an audience encountering the genre for the first time.

Each year, the concert is designed in line with the ball's theme, setting the tone for the rest of the evening. Previous productions have included Romeo & Juliet and La Bohème, where music, dramaturgy, and atmosphere merge into a holistic experience.

The opening concert marks the start of the ball – an evocative introduction to an evening filled with art, elegance, and unforgettable moments.

The Art in the Assembly Hall

"Edvard Munch's Aula paintings were painted in the period 1909–1916 and have adorned the walls of the Aula ever since. The SunAlma Mater, and History are the most famous.

In Munch's time, the Aula paintings were controversial; today, they are a true national treasure that many visit to experience." (University of Oslo, 2020).
